Mississippi Representative

Jerry Alliston

Jerry R. Alliston, Ph.D., MSW currently serves as the Associate Director at the Institute for Disability Studies (IDS), a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at The University of Southern Mississippi.  Dr. Alliston has over 25+ years of experience in the social sciences and disability fields focusing on medical social work, military disability case management, disaster case management, early intervention services, and transition services.  Dr. Alliston received his doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration from The University of Southern Mississippi as well as a Master’s in Social Work degree.  Dr. Alliston oversees the IDS Transition to Adulthood Programs and researches, develops, obtains funding and implements best practice programs.  Focus areas include pre-employment training, teacher training and technical assistance, inclusive national service, advocacy, leadership, assistive technology and post-secondary education for youth and young adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.  Dr. Alliston considers himself “blessed” to work with the future leaders of tomorrow.
